Beware of 1-888-795-6262 – it is a Fake Bank of America Phone Number

Bank of America customers, please be aware of fake text messages like the one below, or phone calls from 1-888-795-6262. Please do not call the same number and provide the receiver or Interactive Voice Response System (IVR) with your financial information.

The Phishing Bank of America SMS Text Message

“(Free MSG) Please call Bank of America regarding a servicing matter at 1-888-795-6262 by 11pm ET today. Reply STOP to end texts… “

Today, I got the same SMS text message saying to call Bank of America at 1-888-795-6262 regarding a service matter. I called the number and an Interactive Voice System said: “Welcome to Bank of America.” The Interactive Voice Response System then tried to get my full credit card number and my full social security number, as there seemed to be a problem looking up my account.

But, because I am no fool, I called Bank of America from the number on the back of my bank card. The customer service representative said they have no record of the phone number: 1-888-795-6262 being a BofA number. The representative also said there was nothing wrong with my account and no text message was issued. I sent a screenshot of the message and report it to abuse@bankofamerica.com.

Bank of America customers who have been tricked into disclosing their credit information are asked to contact BoA for help using the telephone number at the back of their banking cards.
